The Marble’s Game Getter Gun, a storied gun with a long and troubled history, speaks to me. By today’s standards, the skeletal over-under is underpowered, and a bit slow. Yet the single-shot Game Getter Gun lives on in the survival-minded offerings of Springfield Armory, and Savage, and even Chiappa. Let me set the scene. There were two models of Marble Game Getter, the 1908 and the 1921. Model 1908 serial numbers range form 1 to about 10,000, and Model 1921 serial numbers ranged form 10,000 to 20,076. The serial number for your Game Getter (13724) falls in the model 1908 serial number range (Fjestads 'Blue Book of Gun Values' is the source of this information).

A controlled firearm that is an over-under.22/.410. They weremade by the Marble Arms Company and are subject to the NationalFirearms Act of 1934 in being short barreled shotguns and rifles-the NFA regulates: A. Machine Guns capable of full-automatic fire.B. Shotguns with abbreviated barrels popularily called (sawed-off),C. Pistols equipped with detachable or permanentaly fitted shoulderstocks., there is an established minimum barrel length of 18 Inchesfor a shotgun and 16 For a Rifle with conventional shoulder stocks. The Game getter is subject to the B and C portions of the act. TheGame getter is not an automatic or even semi-auto arm, but doesviolate the concealability and short barrel/shoulder stockingportions of the act.
Note that depending on the barrel length, thestatis of the item is in question. If it has a barrel lengthshorter than 18', and is not currently registered properly with theATF, it is in violation of the law to posess or sell the item. Itcannot be 'registered' now as the amnesty period has expired. One solution is, if it is a short barrel model, separate thebarrel component, from the frame component by removing the pivotscrew, and disassemble into 2 separate halves. Do not keep or havethe same person in posession or control of the separate halves. Thebarrels can be replaced with the longer 18' version at reasonablecost and the question of legality is solved. It can then be owned, sold, or used within the constraints of the law without beingsubject to the NFA restrictions.
Im not saying its OK to posess theunregistered short barrel models. Im saying if they 2 halves of ashort barrel model are not together, under the control of the sameindividual, the ATF ruling does not apply. Be very careful if youare inadvertantly or unintentionally in control of one of thesethat are in violation. The individual parts, including short barrels, are quite legallysellable on the market as repair or replacements and only the'receiver' is a controlled part, and all sub-components can be soldor purchased without restriction. If you are in need of the longer 18' barrels, or are interestedin sellig parts, contact me Roger Watson at brddwatson@msn.com.
