This is a book containing 15 'chapters' that were originally sold separately. Each chapter covers adifferent section of sleight-of-hand card technique (with the exception of 3 chapters on false dealsand 2 on estimation). This doesn't contain too many 'tricks' but rather sleights that could be used,and are sometimes essential, to accomplishing other tricks.What convinced me to buy thiswas the 3 chapters on false deals, one on side steals, and one on multiple shifts (as I was lookingto learn those at the time). I was not disappointed. As per the usual Marlo treatment, he doesn'tjust write how to do a sleight. He writes how to do a sleight, then writes it again with a differentmethod, then another and another and another etc. I believe the most I saw was seven differentvariations for the same sleight.
This ensures that if you don't like the sleight, just look againand find a new version! There are also many different sleights in each chapter i.e.
In the sidesteal chapter there is the deliberate steal, clip steal, color steal, diagonal palm shift and manymore.Difficulty: LEARNING: As far as books go, this is some pretty easy reading (alsoincludes illustrations when necessary). PERFORMING: This is where it starts to get difficult (and Imean REALLY difficult). This is not 'beginner' stuff. This is material that you will need to spendmonths working on to get to a state that you can perform and get away with it (but what do youexpect with stuff like false deals?). But it's well worth the work.Practicality: 10/10 Ifyou perform sleight-of-hand card magic, then you WILL use this.
Just the second deal alone is usedby many on a constant basis, and it's just one of many, many sleights taught.Price: I'lladmit, the price is a bit steep, but here at Penguin it's still the best price around. If youperform card magic, then this is an investment well worth the money.Overall: I got thisabout a year ago and was only able to learn about 5 sleights to a performable level so far, and Istill feel I got my money's worth. The documentary features Charlie Schulien, David Solomon, Danny Korem, and Jack Pyle. This program was originally released in 1982 and was the first video footage of Marlo to be made available. It was shot using broadcast quality equipment and is still considered the finest quality footage of the master in action. Crossed Cases: Two decks of cards are impossibly removed from a criss-crossed box that can only hold one deck. Direct Transposition: The top cards of two packets of cards change places. Large Face Small Back: A method of showing a card to have a full sized face and a miniature sized back.
Snap Change: One card visually changes into another. Aces To The Top: A three-phase routine where the four aces keep rising to the top of the deck after continuously being lost in the middle. The final phase is a triumph effect where the aces are the only ones face down and are in every fourth position for a poker deal. D'Amico One-Hand Second Deal: A method of dealing the second card from the top with one hand. Cigar Bottom Deal: A technique for doing bottom deals without turning your wrist.
